42K in Gumboots to raise awareness and funds towards I Am Hope and the Cancer Society Marlborough.
Nationwide
We are running the Queenstown Marathon on the 20th of November... in Gumboots!
Why?
Well, we thought that if we were going to get outside and spread our legs, we may as well gumboot up and do it for a good cause (or two).
Our aim is to raise $2,000, with the funds raised going towards both the I Am Hope Gumboot Friday fund and the Cancer Society Marlborough. Two incredible organisations that are very close to our hearts.
It's said that "Having depression is like walking through mud every day".
Having experienced living with the black dog ourselves, this is an accurate description.
The legends at I Am Hope educate and support young Kiwi's with their mental health and provide free counseling for NZ youth stuck in the mud on waiting lists, ensuring that our young people and their families receive the help and support they need, when they need it the most.
Most of us know someone who has been supported by the Cancer Society, including ourselves. The Cancer Society has provided amazing care and support for the warriors in our whanau fighting Cancer, and for so many others going through the same.
Our friends at the Cancer Society missed out on having a proper Daffodil Day during lockdown this year, and we missed having an excuse to get decked out in yellow for a whole day, so we wanted to take the opportunity to give back by including them in our gumboot adventure.
Come along for the ride, follow the journey and join the conversation as we look to raise money together for I Am Hope and the Cancer Society Marlborough.
Thank you for your support!

Kia Ora!
The QT Marathon was 2 weeks ago and I am still absolutely buzzing! Massive thank you for getting behind the cause and supporting the Gumboot 42K for I Am Hope and the Cancer Society Marlborough - it means the world! We crushed our fundraising goal and I am absolutely blown away by all the incredible donations and messages of support, I couldn’t have done it without you 💛 You are all absolute legends!! 💪
The marathon was the longest run of my liiiife, and as hard as it was I would do it again in a heart beat.
The aim of the Gumboot 42K was:
- ⚡️to fundraise for I Am Hope, and cover more counselling sessions and immediate support for our kids stuck on the waiting lists, encourage a change in attitude around mental health in NZ, kick the stigma out the way and get more people talking and normalising the conversation around mental health. 🥾
- ⚡️⚡️fundraise for and support our mates at the Cancer Society. The work they do in the community and the help and support they’ve given our whanau multiple times, through some of the worst times made it a no brainer. 💛
- ⚡️⚡️⚡️ push myself physically and mentally, normalise having those tough conversations within and outside my own circle, do something that sets my soul on fire yeowwww 🔥
The messages and conversations I had before, during and after the marathon with people I had never met before, sharing our stories and how mental health has affected ourselves and the people we love made running in Gumboots more than worth it. If looking silly running a marathon in yellow gumboots is what it takes to encourage and have more of these conversations, watch me do it over and over, and over again.
- the give a little page is still open until the 15th December for those who still want to donate 💛
