The Gumboot 42K

  • The Gumboot 42K Update

      4 December 2022

    -FB post edited and re-written-

    Kia Ora!

The QT Marathon was 2 weeks ago and I am still absolutely buzzing! Massive thank you for getting behind the cause and supporting the Gumboot 42K for I Am Hope and the Cancer Society Marlborough - it means the world! We crushed our fundraising goal and I am absolutely blown away by all the incredible donations and messages of support, I couldn’t have done it without you 💛 You are all absolute legends!! 💪

The marathon was the longest run of my liiiife, and as hard as it was I would do it again in a heart beat.

The aim of the Gumboot 42K was:

    - ⚡️to fundraise for I Am Hope, and cover more counselling sessions and immediate support for our kids stuck on the waiting lists, encourage a change in attitude around mental health in NZ, kick the stigma out the way and get more people talking and normalising the conversation around mental health. 🥾

    - ⚡️⚡️fundraise for and support our mates at the Cancer Society. The work they do in the community and the help and support they’ve given our whanau multiple times, through some of the worst times made it a no brainer. 💛

    - ⚡️⚡️⚡️ push myself physically and mentally, normalise having those tough conversations within and outside my own circle, do something that sets my soul on fire yeowwww 🔥

The messages and conversations I had before, during and after the marathon with people I had never met before, sharing our stories and how mental health has affected ourselves and the people we love made running in Gumboots more than worth it. If looking silly running a marathon in yellow gumboots is what it takes to encourage and have more of these conversations, watch me do it over and over, and over again.

    - the give a little page is still open until the 15th December for those who still want to donate 💛

Forever grateful for all the support!!

    I’ll catch ya soon 🥾⚡️⚡️

    $1 = 1 Km!! ⚡️

Over the next 30 days - from the 2nd of September to the 1st of October I will be running 1 Kilometre for every $1 donated to The Gumboot 42K give a little page (link in bio). 🥾

All donations go directly to both the I Am Hope Gumboot Friday Foundation and the Cancer Society Marlborough. Two incredible NZ charities that give incredible support to our communities. 🥾💛

Forever grateful for all the support!

Let’s give the Gumboots a run for their money this month…. ⚡️⚡️

      15 December 2021

Oh hey! We’re back and ready to go... ⚡️

    Here’s a couple life updates:

🥾 The Queenstown Marathon has been postponed to the 19th March! Aaand We’ll see you there!

🥾 The mission remains the same: to continue the conversation and raise awareness around mental health in NZ, and raise funds for @iamhope to provide kiwi kids with free counseling 💛

🥾 I’m currently running 60Km over November for MOvember to raise awareness for men’s mental health, and the lads over at @ladswithoutlabels have been kind enough to let me join their team ⚡️Awesome cause, awesome lads, check them out!

🥾 Spreading my legs for @iamhope and @newzealandcancersociety Click on the cheeky link in my bio to support, subscribe hehe xoxo 😘🥰🤪

  • Update!!

      13 October 2021

Unfortunately, the Gumboot 42K has been cut short.

I've been advised not to participate in the Marathon this time - a thing called glandular fever exists and it's not the most helpful running partner.

Massive thank you for all the support we've received so far!!

Refunds are available for the awesome people who have donated already - please contact Give a Little directly at helpdesk@givealittle.co.nz by Monday 18th October and the team will refund your donation.

I'm going to keep the Instagram page/Give a Little going with the intent of doing the Queenstown Marathon next year, or possibly another marathon at an earlier date as well as other fundraising - adventures -

The Gumboot 42K is something I'm 100% still training for in the future, I'm just not able to give it my all this time.

Thanks for following along and being a part of journey, we're so grateful for the interest and support you've shown for the Gumboot 42K.

This isn't goodbye, we'll see you soon!

    Kia Ora🌞

Some bad news/good news for your Tuesday afternoon.🗞

Unfortunately the better half of the gumboot 42K Destiny Aires is unable to make it this year. She’ll be there in spirit and support but instead she will be busy running marathons at work 😢

However Shanz Aires will still be at it, providing you with sub-par quality content and giving it all at QT marathon for I Am Hope and the Cancer Society.

Massive thank you for all the interest, support and donations received already!!

It means the absolute world 🌎

Stay tuned for what’s to come NEXT⚡️⚡️⚡️
