Steve Walker & Aaron Hawkins are busting a gut to fund vital surgery for our iconic yellow-eyed penguins at the Wildlife Hospital, Dunedin.
Nationwide
Steve Walker (Hospital Trust Chair) & Aaron Hawkins (Dunedin City Councillor) are big fans of the staff and volunteers at the Wildlife Hospital, Dunedin.
The hospital's most frequent visitors are the amazing yellow-eyed penguin (hoiho), an iconic species living on the south east coast of the South Island. Their numbers are dwindling and their future is far from secure.
On hearing that a yellow-eyed penguin surgery costs $500, Steve and Aaron decided that they would run the Papatowai Challenge - a 15.5km race in the Catlins, which many hoiho call home - to try and raise $5000 for 10 operations.
The best bit? Steve HATES running and Aaron's lumbering form is better suited to a board room, but their gripes and 'condition' are nothing compared to the threats being faced by these wonderful birds.
Please give generously, even if you only want to see Steve & Aaron suffer!
I Chair the Dunedin Wildlife Hospital Trust Board and am prepared to put myself through pain in order to help raise funds for life saving surgery on our amazing hoiho.
