FFC Ride 4 KidsCan

  • Charity Ride Day 5 (DONE!)

All over, job done with everyone safely to the finish line.

The climb over the Crown Range on the final day was pretty tough, but the race up Coronet Peak to the finish line was harder (8.3km, average gradient 9%). I was pretty happy with my time, finishing 3rd up Coronet with a time of 36.35 after leading for the first half. Ben Blinkhorne passed me right on the finish line after a great sprint finish to take 2nd and Andrew Young claimed 1st with a time of 35 minutes something.

After the race Kidscan came and thanked us for the fundraising effort. The $150,000 raised will bring forward four decile one schools off the wait list. This will make a real difference, providing the basics (shoes, raincoats & food) for around 800 disadvantaged kids for the next 3 years.

Thanks so much to all of you that kindly donated to this great cause and supported the charity ride.

    Cheers, Tim

  • Charity Ride Day 4

      22 March 2016

    We made it to Wanaka!

550km done and just 1 day left to go to the finish line.

Great day today as we headed over Lindis Pass. We arrived to a scorcher in Wanaka so went straight to the lake for a swim to cool off.

Tomorrow we head over the Crown Range then race to the top of Coronet Peak for the finish line.

  • Charity Ride Day 3

      21 March 2016

Past halfway now with 435km done over the last 3 days. We rolled past Mount Cook today, on to Omarama, then out for a tour of Benmore damn (Meridian are a major sponsor).

Total fundraising for Kidscan is now sitting at ~140K thanks to everyone's generous donations!

Our ride director shared a personal story with us all tonight about his father passing away unexpectedly in his 30's. This left his mother a solo mum with 4 young kids that struggled to get through some pretty tough times and needing to rely on a bit of charity and kindness of strangers. Great to think about the fundraising going to directly help kids going through hardship like that.

Day 4 tomorrow looks like it will be the hardest day yet as we head over Lindis pass to Wanaka on already tired legs. Can't wait to get to Wanaka tomorrow night, with Wanaka being one of my favorite places in the world.

      19 March 2016

Perfect first day on the Charity ride today. Sunny with a tail wind. All arrived safely. Legs are feeling a bit tired with the first ~180k done. Looking forward to another good one tomorrow as we cycle in to Tekapo. Thanks to all for your support and encouragement. Tim
