Cycling 650K to raise money for disadvantaged Kiwi kids. All donations direct to KidsCan, providing basics for Kiwi kids living in poverty

Wellington

In March I am riding 650km over 5 days from Christchurch to Queenstown to help raise over $250k for underprivileged kids. $250k through KidsCan charity will help provide the basics for over 1200 kids in need.

KidsCan’s mission is to provide food, clothing and basic healthcare in schools to enable disadvantaged children to reach their full potential. There are over 305,000 kiwi kids living in hardship. That’s 1 in 4 children without the basics. Over 105,000 kids now have access to KidsCan programmes. More information on their great work can be found at their website.

Every dollar raised will go to the cause! All riders have paid $1500 to do the ride as well as all expenses getting to the start line through to Queenstown and home again (Flights, Accommodation and tight fitting Lycra).

Our passion for this great cause is rooted in the desire to see every child have a fair opportunity to succeed in life. As parents we all do everything we can to offer opportunities to our children. As citizens, in a society with an ever widening gap, we are compelled to do what we can to help other children in our community. We can’t change the world – but we can tip the scales for 1,200 kids back in their favour a little.

I would hugely appreciate your support. To donate please click on the big pink 'Donate Now' button in the top right corner (+ all donations are tax deductible!)

I would also love it if you could please share this page with anyone else in your network that you think would also be kind enough to support a great cause.

Many thanks, Tim

I am committed to raising as much money as possible to directly benefit disadvantaged Kiwi Kids. There will be some very long, hard days in the saddle clocking big kilometres and climbing big hills - all for a very deserving cause.

Please help us make a positive difference by clicking on the pink 'Donate Now' button in the top right corner!

Charity Ride Day 5 (DONE!)  24 March 2016

All over, job done with everyone safely to the finish line.

The climb over the Crown Range on the final day was pretty tough, but the race up Coronet Peak to the finish line was harder (8.3km, average gradient 9%). I was pretty happy with my time, finishing 3rd up Coronet with a time of 36.35 after leading for the first half. Ben Blinkhorne passed me right on the finish line after a great sprint finish to take 2nd and Andrew Young claimed 1st with a time of 35 minutes something.

After the race Kidscan came and thanked us for the fundraising effort. The $150,000 raised will bring forward four decile one schools off the wait list. This will make a real difference, providing the basics (shoes, raincoats & food) for around 800 disadvantaged kids for the next 3 years.

Thanks so much to all of you that kindly donated to this great cause and supported the charity ride.

Cheers, Tim
