All things have their end and so does this donation page. Many thanks again to all who donated to the cause. And if you happen to land here and want to know how you can contribute to the work The Salvation Army do in our communities, please see: https://www.salvationarmy.org.nz/help-us/donations

Finally, if you want to get a sense of the people, like Dookie here, and the places one may encounter on a Kopiko Aotearoa adventure, have a browse through the posts and photos on this Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/tony.tours.aotearoa.again.for.the.sallies/

  • Read all about it! And please donate while doing so, if you've not given already.

Yes folks! The post ride write up has been completed. If you want to get a sense of the adventure that is Kopiko Aotearoa (or at least one man's perspective of it), see the posts on: https://www.facebook.com/tony.tours.aotearoa.again.for.the.sallies/

And if you've not donated already, please consider giving to the Community Ministries of the Salvation Army. This part of the Sallies are providing the food bank service and other practical support to people in need in our communities all over Aotearoa during the COVID-19 crisis.

I reached the Cape Egmont lighthouse at 1:15pm on Monday the 2nd of March, with both body and bike intact, nine and half days after starting from the East Cape.

Thanks to the Kennett Brothers for another great ride across our wonderful country, Erik Westra for the cue sheets, the other riders and locals I met, the accommodation providers and the eateries - you all had a part in making my Kopiko Aotearoa adventure what it was. To find out more about the ride see: https://www.facebook.com/tony.tours.aotearoa.again.for.the.sallies/

Many thanks also to those who have supported the fund raising for the Community Ministries of the Salvation Army. The Givealittle page will remain open until May so it is not too late to contribute.

  • Tony’s tour of Aotearoa (again!) for the Sallies reaches half way!

This junction on SH38, that I reached on day 5, marks the halfway point of the standard Kopiko Aotearoa route. This is point is about a third of the way from Ruatahuna to Murapara. If you look on a map it doesn’t look like half way across the island but that’s because the first half of the course is far less direct than the second half!

However, this wasn’t quite half way for me as I took the optional loop via the Moerangi Track and this junction is also the turn off for that track.

Please consider supporting me by donating to the Community Ministries of the Salvation Army as I complete the Kopiko Aotearoa ride.

Yes! You can track me in real time as I ride across the middle of the North Island. I'm going to be carrying a satellite tracker so you can experience the exhilaration as I'm powering along the flat sections at a good 20+kph and the despair when grinding up apparently endless climbs at 6-7kph with a heavy load.

To track my progress, click on the "Kopiko Aotearoa 2020" link (which will be enabled once the ride starts on the 22nd of Feb) on this page: http://Kopiko.trackme.bike

    Enjoy!
