Donate to support The Salvation Army's life-changing work with struggling families and individuals in Newtown
Wellington
Kia ora! On 6 March 2020 I'm jumping on my mountain bike for Tour Aotearoa, one of the world’s great bike-packing trips. With my mate Mark I'm biking 3,000 km from Cape Reinga to Bluff over 27 days (all going to plan!).
This trip has been on my bucket list for ages. We're doing it on the cheap - free camping mostly with just the occasional caravan-park hot shower (so it would be best to stay upwind of us most days).
My day job is pastoring a Salvation Army church in Newtown, Wellington, where we also have a super-busy Community Ministries welfare centre.
Every day I see the transformation that comes as our staff and volunteers feed hungry families, help people into housing, welcome the lonely and struggling into our drop-in centre, and provide extra supports through social work and counselling.
My goal is to raise $3000 (plus a bit extra to cover Give A Little's service charge) to strengthen this awesome work. That's just $1 for every 1 km I'll be riding. What a bargain!
I'm a keen mountain biker - it's great for my wellbeing. Donate to cheer me on and bring wellbeing to others when they need it most. Thanks my friends!

I work for The Salvation Army in Newtown, see their awesome work firsthand, and want to strengthen their support for the community.
COVID-19 trumps travel 23 March 2020
Hi, two days into our South Island leg of Tour Aotearoa, we've made the decision to return home to Wellington.
We're going to head along Highway 63 via St Arnaud towards Blenheim.
Best to stay safe and get home before travel restrictions get tighter, and also to do all we can to help keep virus transmission down. Not an easy choice but with things so changeable and the situation so important for people's safety this is the only choice.
The Salvation Army Newtown Centre is is already under increasing pressure with COVID-19, particularly around helping those who are socially isolated and homeless in our part of the city, so if you're still feeling willing it would be great if you could make a contribution.
Stay safe and well everyone. Look after yourselves and your loved ones. Follow all the advice from the Government and Health Authorities. Bless you.
