On the 11th February 2023 I'll be running the Tarawera Ultramarathon 100 Miler to raise money and awareness for Alzheimers NZ!
Auckland
Around 70,000 New Zealanders are living with dementia today, and about 60% of them are suffering from Alzheimer's Disease (AD). AD is a neurological disorder that will lead the brain to atrophy and become smaller. It will break down memory and cognitive ability, and will broadly limit the capacity to go about day-to-day life.
There is no current cure for AD, but there is a lot that can be done to help those affected and their surrounding communities. Alzheimers NZ provide a lot of great information on AD, how you can support the people in need, and how you can get support if needed. They work to raise awareness, advocate for high quality support, and promote research about prevention, treatment, cure, and care. I encourage you to have a read through the link below, and if you would like, to donate. That would be greatly appreciated.
My Dad, Ian Moody, got diagnosed with early-onset AD at age 58 and lived with it before passing peacefully in November 2022 at age 62. In Ian's honour, and in support of our family, our community, and all the people suffering, I am planning to run the Tarawera Ultramarathon 100 Miler on the 11th February 2023 to raise money and awareness for Alzheimers NZ. Any and all support is very very much appreciated! Much love xx
The final update! 27 February 2023
Together we’ve raised a massive $14,700 for Alzheimers NZ which will go toward national education, support for the people suffering, and will help to keep dementia front of mind for government.
Two weeks seem to have flown by following the big day. I managed to get from A to B and complete the 100 Miler! I'm feeling chuffed to have gotten through it and am proud of the big effort I put in, but it wasn't without an incredible amount of support:
To my family and friends, thank you for backing me all the way. Love to you all!
To my family and friends supporting me on the day, thank you for your endless energy, for your patience, and for being part of the journey! What a team!!
To all who supported and watched on from afar on the day and throughout the night, thank you too!
To the legend Kerry Suter who coached me throughout my prep for the event, it’s been a real privilege working with you and getting to know you. Thank you for all your encouragement, frankness, and guidance throughout the build up.
Thank you to the trail running community, the volunteers, and everyone who made TUM happen.
Finally, thank you to my Dad for introducing me to the world of endurance, and to the great outdoors. I know you’d be proud of what we’ve all achieved! Forever in your honour mate ❤️❤️
Thank you Michelle! ❤️❤️
Can't thank you enough for the support!
Thank you Georgia 🙂🙂
Thank you both!
