Two Old Farts Bike Cape Reinga to Bluff for Napier and Hastings Womens Refuge
Hawke's Bay
Hiya everyone, a big shout out !
We are two old farts who woke up one morning wondering what we were going to do. Being the bright sparks we are we thought 'lets bike to Bluff from Cape Rienga. How hard can that be??' We will take our time, just keep pedalling and enjoy the scenery.
Turns out it is pretty hard. Our backsides are not made for this (I have discovered bones where I thought there was none), our legs seemed to have turned to jelly and our faces get smashed to pieces with flying insects. The scenery is beautiful and the people we meet are fantastic so that makes up for it.
Having completed half the journey we thought we were being entirely selfish swanning around for nothing so decided we wanted to help out where we could.
We have chosen to fundraise for the Napier and Hastings Womens Refuges. To compensate for the 'down side ' of our travels it would be fantastic to think we will be helping such a community focussed charity. Family Violence Intervention & Prevention Charitable Trust is the umbrella trust which covers Hastings Womens Refuge and Napier Womens Refuge - both of which provide a non-judgemental, supportive environment that encourages, promotes and supports families to live violence free.
Sooooo ...... if anyone out there would like to donate to a super worthy cause now is your chance. We always intended to donate a Superannuation payment but it would be fantastic if we could get a little more.
Thanks in advance for your support :)
Cheers

Wrap up 12 April 2021
Well folks its all over and Tony and I have been resting up big time since the completion of the ride. In fact the bikes went into a carton and haven't come out since. Thats not to say they wont. Our butts have recovered, the bruising has gone and all scars (maybe not the mental ones) have healed so maybe we will be on them again. Watch this space.
It was an amazing journey made all the more so by your fabulous donations. Seriously there was days I would have chucked it all in but knew the money was coming in so just dug deeper and kept peddling. I have learnt that with a heap of swearing, cursing and the right motivation anything can be achieved.
So a massive thank you to everyone that donated, we appreciate it and I know everyone involved with the Hastings and Napier Womens Refuge certainly does.
Thanks again,
Cheers
