Pearl was out walking with her owner and other fur sibling and has suffered a freak accident, every owner's worst nightmare.
A seagull caught Pearls attention, she lunged forward to chase it, this resulted in her pulling her owner over to chase the seagull. Pearl became fixated on the seagull and has gone off the edge of the North Head cliff in Devonport.
Pearl has fallen over 30 meters off a cliff, landing in a rock pool on jagged rocks and paralyzing herself. By some miracle Pearl survived the fall. Her owner raced down to the bottom and carried her back up to the carpark, Pearl was in an incredible amount of pain and was taken straight to the Shore Vets.
Initially the veterinary team believed she had a broken pelvis, however complex x-rays show she has damage to her spine. Pearl has been transferred to ARC Central and is currently stable. The Veterinary team and surgical team believe surgery to the two damaged discs from the fall will give Pearl a chance to re-gain her mobility and live a normal life.
Her owner has been a long-time volunteer of Chained Dog Awareness NZ Trust and is currently going through their own long term health issues. Pearl has been their support system throughout all of this.
Funds will be used for further testing, surgery, care and ongoing treatment for Pearl. It has been estimated Pearls medical costs will be a minimum of $20,000.
This is an incredibly difficult time for Pearl and her owner. Any donation is greatly appreciated towards Pearls care.
