Nationwide
I have spent long periods in Africa and India, and seen first hand the types of water children rely on everyday. Swimming for ten days is a whole lot easier than growing up in those conditions.
On March 10, 2013 local Taupo man, Craig Stephenson, will set off from the Taupo Control gates to swim 320km down the Waikato River to Port Waikato. It is hoped the journey will take him ten days, reaching Port Waikato (currents, tides and eels permitting) on March 20th.
Update for 23/01/2013 23 January 2013
Hi all. After further research, and a sobering chat with the only perosn to swim the Waikato before, I (and my wife) have decided to postpone the swim; I need more time to prepare, and also more time to actually do the swim - my plan of 10 to 12 days is way too ambitious. Thanks for all those who donated and supported. This goes onto my bucket list.
