Raising Funds for an Ice Machine at North Shore Hospital Dialysis Unit

I am raising funds for an ice machine at the North Shore Hospital Dialysis Unit.

I am patient of this service and have been having kidney dialysis here for the last 18 months since moving to New Zealand with my wife. Myself and my fellow patients wish to have an ice machine because we are strictly limited with our fluid intake due to the pressure it puts on our bodies and our hearts. Ice is a cheap and safe way to quench the thirst without overloading the body.

My doctor told me it would be safer for me to 'suck on ice' when I want to drink water and it will last longer.

Ice is also essential to relief the pain of hematomas and decrease the inflammation, which often happens through the frequent needling required as part of the dialysis treatment.

The North Shore Hospital Dialysis Unit does not currently have the funds to purchase an ice machine and so I have offered to lead this fundraising effort.
