On 26th March I will be walking twice around the Hamilton lake to raise awareness for endometriosis.
I have personally been affected by endo and know a lot of my close friends have been too.
I was diagnosed in 2013 after many years of painful symptoms. 5 years ago I took a downhill turn and was struggling immensely. I looked absolutely fine on the outside, but in fact, I was unable to walk for more than 10 minutes, unable to drive on my own for long periods and my life became simply trying to get through a day of work and sleeping. I have lost numerous friendships and relationships simply from people not understanding or being aware of how intense endo symptoms can be. It has been a very lonely journey at times.
I struggled to find the right support and treatment until a couple of years ago where I found a specialist that would listen and understand my symptoms. I was referred on for different treatments which included physiotherapy, dietary assessment, a couple of surgeries and a pain management programme.
I have started to get some of my life back now after numerous treatments about 5 surgeries later however it is still a daily struggle and has taken a huge toll mentally and physically. I know a lot of people with endo who have similar struggles and have walked similar if not even more difficult journeys.
My decision to walk for Endo is not just for me but all the endo sisters out there.
