I am participating in an 18km walk to support people, like my Mum living with Parkinson's
Hawke's Bay
Next weekend I am participating in an 18km walk to support Parkinson’s HB. I have been a volunteer helper previous years but this is my first year walking the bi annual sold out event.
Parkinson’s HB is a support group very close to my heart with my mum Wenz being diagnosed with Parkinson’s about 25 years ago. She is the most inspirational and positive person I know but over the last couple of years she has declined rapidly
In 2017 I ran my first half marathon and raised $1600, this donation went towards new equipment for the Parkinson's weekly Strength & Balance classes in Hawkes Bay.
In 2019 I raised $2100 running the HB half and donations went towards an outing to the ballet and a high tea for 20 members of Parkinsons’ HB and their support people, this was Mum’s suggestion.
This walk will be a slower pace to the half marathons, so I will be able to take in some of the stunning cape scenery through private land and the wildlife sanctuary – to say Mum is envious is an understatement, she loved going for walks and picnics but is no longer physically able.
I’ve started this Give A Little page to raise funds for Parkinson’s HB which provide Mum and so many others in the area with ongoing local support, exercise and coffee groups and other advice and services.
Any contributions no matter how small will be hugely welcomed.
I want to support and help provide opportunities for people with Parkinson's like my mum.
