Weight on my Shoulders

Hi Team,

August 19 2018 we will be holding a fund raising event in honour of our fallen,

Luke Tamatea.

The vehicle in which he was travelling in was hit by an IED explosive device while on deployment in Afghanistan August 19 2012, killing him and two of his fellow soldiers.

This year our whanau have decided August 19 will be the time to create a fundraising event supporting ‘NO DUFF’.

So who is NO DUFF?

‘No Duff’ is a registered charity committed to providing immediate support for veterans in need.

Our plan for the day:

To honour our fallen soldiers we are going to gear up for a 10 km walk/run

'Military style’.

What does that look like?

A typical day patrol pack for our soldiers weighs approximately 25kg.

The challenge is to carry the same weight that our soldiers carried while on tour in Afghanistan.

The distance of the walk is around Luke Tamateas home where he is at rest in Kawerau.

Our family has had and continues to have support from so many since Luke’s death;

Luke’s brothers in arms, NZDF, RSA, NO DUFF, Illicit Clothing, Aaron Horrall and South Coast Productions, our strong whanau and so many more. It has taken us 6 very difficult years to get to a place where we feel it is time to move forward and have a focus on giving back to help others who find themselves in need of support.

Luke has inspired so many to become stronger fitter people so let’s put all this to work.

We have 25kg weights (some lighter) for you to experience what our soldiers experience.

How can you help?

Join us on our hikoi, donate to the NO DUFF page, share stories, sponsor prizes.

Help us lift the Weight on my Shoulders.
