Shave your head and donate for the eradication of domestic violence towards women in Aotearoa - all funds going to the Women's Refuge.

New Lynn, Auckland

We hate domestic violence in Aotearoa so much that it makes us want to shave our heads!

Our idea came from the understanding that we as women hold a lot of our value in our beauty (hair, makeup, clothing) in the eyes of our patriarchal society. So, to shave our heads would be to go against such beliefs - we are more than that! It's also a movement that will spark discourse, "Why did you shave your head?"... "For the eradication for violence against women!"

"Hair has been held as a standard of feminine beaty." - Thea Cheuk, about the reactions of female baldness.

"A bald head subverts what has come to be a traditional and patriarchal idea of what a women should look like." - Angella D'Avignon, about the strict expectations on women in society.

I run an Auckland based social woman's club outside (@womenwhosocialise) through which this movement will be promoted. There will be a Google Form where you can sign up to shave your head and more information on the event (date/time/location). There will also be an option to donate your hair to the Cancer Society. Even if you aren't willing to shave your head, all donations make a difference for this cause!

All donations will be going to "Women's Refuge," Aotearoa's largest organisation supporting women and children experiencing domestic violence.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
