The WoW Nomads are riding Tour Aotearoa 2027 to support the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Appeal and chase one epic adventure.
Bay of Plenty
We’re the WoW (Women On Wheels) Nomads - a two-woman team taking on the Tour Aotearoa Brevet in 2027, and representing an awesome bunch of ladies from Te Puke Women on Wheels.
Julie is in her mid-60s and an absolute legend on a bicycle. She’s one of those riders who quietly and relentlessly climbs hills while everyone else is questioning their life choices halfway up.
Frankie is 45, moderately enthusiastic, and hoping determination will compensate for average cycling ability and questionable decision-making.
Together, we’re aiming to ride the length of Aotearoa, have a hell of a good adventure, and hopefully avoid needing medical extraction somewhere remote between Cape Reinga and Bluff.
Which brings us to our chosen charity: the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Appeal.
When you start planning a 3,000km bike ride across New Zealand, you quickly realise just how important these rescue helicopters are. Whether rescuing injured adventurers, transporting critically ill patients, helping new mums get safely to hospital, or responding to emergencies in remote communities, they are an incredible lifeline for Kiwis.
And real talk time - there’s every chance one of us, or someone else out on the Tour Aotearoa, may one day be very grateful to hear those rotor blades overhead.
Every cent raised through the Westpac Chopper Appeal supports local rescue helicopter services throughout New Zealand.
As we pedal our way south, we’d love your support for this incredible cause.
Ride on,
The WoW Nomads
