Otago

1 in 4 people will be affected by mental health at some point in their lives. Everyone copes in various forms, but the one thing to remember is that talking can always help.

Youthline is a free, confidential service which provides a safe space to talk. The organisation supports people to develop the tools to empower and support themselves in whatever circumstance they find themselves in.

Youthline is a nationwide service, taking roughly 9,000 calls, sending 92,000 texts, and talking with around 16,000 different people each year. Along with their national 24/7 helpline (in the forms of talking, texting, emailing, and instant messaging), Youthline Otago also offers face to face counselling and community education programmes. These include workshops for schools and workplaces as well as youth development programmes.

However, the non-for-profit organisation relies heavily on fundraising to allow their well-needed services to continue. The money raised will go directly to Youthline Otago to help ensure there is someone to talk to each day. $10 provides much needed support for 1 young person, $30 allows youthline to respond to 120 texts, and $60 keeps the phone, text and email service operating for an hour. Please help Youthline help others by donating at the link below, every little bit counts!
