Christchurch City Mission

Walk through the doors into our reception on Hereford Street, and you’ve walked straight into the beating heart of the City Mission. This is where we hear people share their stories with one another, we hear laughter, we hear frustration, we see their tears and uncertainties, and we see hope. We watch smiles grow across people’s faces, and shoulders drop, as they find relief and respite from the world around them. They’re not alone, because we walk alongside them.

Last year the Christchurch City Mission transformed the lives of almost 30,000 people across Canterbury. These lives were transformed through the range of services the Christchurch City Mission offers.

As a social service agency, we work in moments of crisis as well as in preventative ways to address underlying challenges. We support, care, and advocate for those who are at society’s edge through social and economic factors. We offer shelter and refuge to those who need it most and help those who are at risk through substance issues, mental health issues, unemployment, homelessness, family breakdown, and/or abuse.

We have the immense privilege of being part of someone’s journey as they rediscover hope and find brightness in the future.
