Not every child in our community goes to school with food for their day of learning - help us to help them.
Wellington
At Fuel the Need, we believe it takes a village to raise a child, and we have started with those closest to us - in our own backyard - right here in Upper Hutt.
As the founder of Daltons Gym Charitable Trust, I started the initiative with a mission to fuel the needs of Upper Hutt primary and intermediate children – one school lunch at a time!
Fast forward to today, and the daily number of lunches fluctuates every school term, from 39 right up to 68.
These are children in schools across Upper Hutt that are going hungry on a daily basis. They have been identified through the school Principals, though their identity remains behind the school gates. Neither myself, nor my team of volunteers know who they are, but what we do know is that we are providing nutritious morning tea & lunch packages to these children, because every child deserves the opportunity to learn, thrive and become amazing!
With a wonderful team of dedicated volunteers, lunches are prepared fresh each morning in a local primary school kitchen, and are delivered out to 12 schools across the city. We have a close working relationship with Pak n Save Upper Hutt, where we purchase all items on a twice weekly basis.
The current cost per child, per lunch is $3, and is fully funded through donations. 100% of all donated funds goes to food and packaging, with a nominal amount to cleaning products and essentials needed to prepare the food.
Launched in 2016, Fuel the Need is an initiative run by Daltons Gym Charitable Trust founder, Manuel Dalton, to fuel the needs of UH primary & intermediate children, one school lunch at a time!
