We positively impact the wellbeing of tertiary students by connecting them with local families for support & professionals for mentorship.
Nationwide
Our mahi is to provide a community based support network for tertiary students living away from home. In doing so we aim to improve the wellbeing of our tertiary students by reducing homesickness and anxiety. Our students will be paired with a local family for regular contact, become involved in family activities and will provide another layer of support outside of the university and peer group environment.
Being involved in the adopt a student program will strengthen our communities, reduce isolation and have a positive impact on the mental health of our students as they navigate their tertiary years. It will also give them opportunity to be paired with professional mentors, and be involved in practical initiatives such as navigating the rental market, budgeting, healthy and easy cooking and strength based career skills.
As a 100% voluntary organisation we rely solely on the generosity of New Zealanders to support our mahi. Your donation will be used to help fund counselling for students (when needed), and to develop and deliver the professional mentorship and practical initiatives.
Our website is here https://www.adoptastudent.org.nz/ Take a look around and contact Tania@adoptastudent.org.nz if you want to know more.
We connect tertiary students living away from home with families in the community to support their physical and mental wellbeing. We also provide professional mentorship for students and practical resources in life skills such as tenancy & budgeting.
