Giving every island resident the opportunity to live healthy, fulfilling, independent lives, and to fully participate in the community.
Auckland
Formed over 35 years ago the Aotea Family Support Group is an essential not for profit social service on Aotea, Great Barrier Is., an off-grid remote island approx 100 kms north of Auckland.
AFSG has 31 staff and trustees who work for the growing community providing a myriad of services that include home help care for the elderly and infirm, youth support, senior activities, counselling, family children at risk, crisis support, home maintenance, ACC and post op clients to live healthy and fulfilled lives in their own homes.
The Trust acts as an umbrella for smaller community group funding, runs the New Year Picnic, First Aid Courses and the Community Group Hui. The loss of these many necessary services would be immense and devastating for our community. AFSG is the only social service on Great Barrier Island.
Unfortunately for the first time in 35 years there has been a lapse and breakdown in procedures. This has meant our largest and key funding applications with non- governmental organisations that allow us to pay staff wages and run the AFSG offices were not submitted on time and we find ourselves with a significant short fall in funding.
We require your donations to keep AFSG’s doors open and able to continue providing our essential services until grant dates open and we can get our funding applications submitted. Our relationship with all our funders remains strong and we believe AFSG to be sustainable, in the medium to long term. Our issues are large but short-term.
Immediate help is needed.
Your donation will make a difference. Thank you!
