We support the needs of older people in the Far North. All older people and their family and caregivers can access our services for free.
Northland
We have a drop-in centre providing free information, advocacy, resources and practical advice and support to those who are in need in our community.
Our office is open from 8.30am-4pm Mon to Fri.
All older people and their family/whanau and caregivers can access our services and receive advice, information, support and practical help, for free. We also link people with other groups and organisations. We produce a newsletter 5 times per year to circulate current and relevant information on aging and in particular promotion of good health and welfare of older people which we send out to our members, the library, doctors offices, the hospital, and other agencies.
Age Concern Kaitaia & District programmes and services provided to older people include: Supportive services: the provision of information, support, advice, case management and referral to other services as needed, to enable older people to remain living in their own homes and maximise independence and quality of life. This includes assistance with WINZ documents, rates rebates, housing issues personal support and situations resulting from financial hardship, deteriorating health and other circumstances.
Elder Abuse & Neglect Prevention (EANP) service: The provision of information and support to older people (their whanau and carers where appropriate) to prevent elder abuse and neglect + financial abuse and to enable them to make decisions that maintain the safety of the older person. Referral to other professional services is made when needed by the client. Our EANP service also raises public awareness and provides education on topics relating to EANP for those working with older people.
Age Concern Kaitaia works collaboratively with other agencies to serve the needs of older people in the Far North.
We provide monthly Health Promotion meetings where we have speakers/workshops targeted at improving the health and wellbeing of people who attend. These meetings are free, and open to the public
