Our team is passionate about and committed to empowering and enabling all people in Wairarapa affected by dementia
The top priority of Alzheimers Wairarapa is to provide assistance to families coping in the early stages of the illness.
We provide day activities for Alzhemier's sufferers through Iona, a partnership between Glenwood Masonic and Alzheimers Wairarapa. We also assist families through clinics, engage in many fundraising activities, have established an out-and-about group, and facilitated support groups for carers. This has all been while the organisation raises awareness and continues to educate the community about Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia.
Alzheimer's Wairarapa exists solely on grants, fundraising, and donations. It is currently the only regional Alzheimer's organisation in NZ that does not receive funding directly from Te Whatu Ora | Health NZ. Unfortunately, the amounts raised annually do not currently allow us to extend the care & dementia support programmes into the South Wairarapa as we would like and need to. With Alzheimer's and dementia sufferers expected to increase by 150% over the next 25 years, it is increasingly likely that you, or someone you know, will be impacted by this lack of funding in the future.
It is our intention to continue this important work in the Wairarapa community, and extend this to engage more with the South Wairarapa. We need your help to do so.
We aim to support everyone impacted by Alzheimer’s across the Wairarapa region with access to education, support, and regular day activities.
Very generous and much appreciated Fergus!
