Kiara's Angel Walk

Kiara's Angel Walk

A colourful fun filled, family day out in Orewa this Children's Day. Family friendly walk/cycle & fun day with live music for Child Cancer.

Auckland

Kiara’s Angel Walk begins with a walk around the beautiful Te Ara Tahuna, Orewa Estuary Walkway, concluding with a Family Funday at the Western Reserve, Orewa.

When: 9.30am Sunday, 6th March 2016.

Where: Te Ara Tahuna Estuary Walkway, Orewa.

Course: Walk or cycle the 2km or 7km course.

Theme: Dress up, have fun and join the colourful procession of purple, wings, butterflies and rainbows.

The wider community and all walkers are invited to join in the Family Funday at Western Reserve, bring the family and enjoy some fabulous entertainment including the very talented Jamie McDell this year, children’s rides, food stalls and fun atmosphere!

The event aims to provide the community with a spectacular day out with the emphasis on fun for the whole family on National Children’s Day.

We encourage all participants young and old to have some fun and dress up for the event. The themes are purple, butterflies and rainbows (all Kiara's favourite things) so get your work colleagues, family and friends together, get creative and have fun!

This event has been put together by Kiara’s family and friends to raise awareness and fundraise for the Child Cancer Foundation who offered much needed support to Kiara and her family. It is a true community event run by volunteers.

In Kiara’s memory $56,000 has been raised to support children with cancer and their families. The event is also an established fixture on the event calendar and has been well supported by the CCF network across Auckland.

Every week in New Zealand three families are told their child has cancer. By providing much needed help and support on a day to day basis from diagnosis onwards the Child Cancer Foundation ensures each child and their family will never feel alone.

The Foundation also supports and funds the education of health professionals and their research into child cancer.

More about us

Kiara’s Angel Walk is inspired by the story of Kiara Morgan from the Hibiscus Coast who was first diagnosed with a rare and incurable malignant rhabdoid tumour in her left kidney at the age of 4 months old.

Kiara was unique, a very special girl who lit up the hearts of everyone she was in contact with. Throughout her life of treatments she never complained, she shared her amazing and infectious smile with everyone. She was a very independent, adventurous, caring and creative child who gave so much in her short life.

A few short weeks later Kiara Morgan lost her courageous battle with cancer at home in the arms of her family on 24 October 2011 just before her 5th birthday.

This event has been put together by Kiara’s family and friends to raise awareness and fundraises for the Child Cancer Foundation who offered much needed support to Kiara and her family.
