AUTSA exists to give a voice to AUT’s diverse student body and bring vibrancy and meaning to life on campus.
Auckland
We’re a small team of busy people doing our best to make AUT a fun, safe and enjoyable place to be for all students. We run events and activities to give you a break from all that swot, publish a kickass student magazine, offer a range of clubs and societies, represent your interests within the university, offer legal advice when you’re in a sticky situation, help you find a job while you’re studying and much, much more! Think of us as your voice on campus, but with a bunch of fun stuff and free food on the side. Pretty cool, huh? We think so.
Our core services sit along a 'continuum of need', which means we are not only here to help you when you need us most, but we also throw really fun events! Here's what we provide for students at AUT:
Advocacy: Our highly trained advocacy team provides confidential and free advice to students having any issues with AUT. Whether you’re facing disciplinary action or having legal issues, wanting to appeal a grade or even feeling harassed, we can help you. If you’re concerned about something happening at AUT or in wider NZ society that might affect you and your peers (maybe your bus fee just increased and you think it’s too expensive), these are the people to talk to.
Representation: Every year, you get the chance to vote in a Student Representative Council— a group of AUT students elected by AUT students to represent the student voice on campus.
It’s the SRC members’ job to keep on top of anything happening within or outside the university that may affect you guys, and to represent the student body in all aspects of the university experience.
Tautoko: Our support service for students in need. We operate a food pantry and support for students who need assistance with living expenses.
Debate mag: Debate is your free fortnightly culture magazine published by AUTSA, bringing you a curated collection of fresh content from on and off campus. From provocative features to food reviews and just about everything in between, we’ve got your extra-curricular reading material well and truly covered. Debate tells you what’s new, what’s on and what’s good, and you tell us what you want to see more (or less) of.
Clubs: It can be tough making friends at university, believe us—we’ve been there! Joining a club is a great way to meet like-minded people and make lifelong pals outside the classroom.
Events: All that study got you feeling wound up? Need to take a break and de-stress, maybe arrange a catch-up with that friend whose texts you’ve been ignoring for the last couple of weeks? AUTSA puts on some of the best events in town, designed with busy students in mind. Give your bank account a holiday and head along to one of our Free Feeds, or assemble your squad for a big night out at one of our on-campus gigs. Drag your friend along to see an inspirational speaker, or get involved in one of our interactive language week events—there’s something for everyone!
Volunteering: Keen to be a part of the AUTSA team? We’re always on the lookout for volunteers to help with orientation, events, promotion, fundraisers and more. It’s a perfect way to give back to the awesome AUT community, plus volunteering looks great on your CV!
Kia Ora, we’re the Auckland University of Technology Student Association, but you can call us AUTSA. It’s nice to meet you.
So, what exactly does a student association do, you may ask? Well, rather a lot of things actually. We’re a small team of busy people doing our best to make AUT a fun, safe and enjoyable place to be for all students. We run events and activities to give students a break from all that swot, publish a kickass student magazine, offer a range of clubs and societies, represent students interests within the university, offer legal advice when students are in a sticky situation, help them find a job while they're studying and much, much more!
Our vision: To be the best student association in New Zealand.
Our mission: To give a voice to AUT’s diverse student body and bring vibrancy and meaning to life on campus.
Our purpose: “To be the heart of AUT, proudly representing, serving and advocating for all students”.
