Our centre provides quality Early Childhood Education to children aged birth to six years old. We're located in the heart of Blockhouse Bay village, bordered by the library, the local primary school and Plunket. Our location means that we can be involved in and enjoy reciprocal relationships with our local community.
We follow the New Zealand Playcentre Federation philosophy and guidelines which emphasise the importance of child led learning, and affirm parents as the first and best educators of their tamariki, so that whānau are strengthened and communities enriched.
Our playcentre is a great opportunity for isolated parents in the area to be part of an inclusive community while receiving support, education and learn about quality parenting.
Our parents are stay-at-home-parents, part-time workers, professionals, and academics.
More about us
We are a friendly, parent run ECE where learning is achieved through child initiated play.
At Playcentre children do what they do best - PLAY! Playcentres offer endless opportunities for children to explore, create, jump, run, get messy and grow. A focus on child-led learning means that each day Playcentres offer a variety of learning and play experiences for the child to choose from.
A typical day at Playcentre would include activities like painting, playdough, playing in the sandpit or on swings, collage, baking, carpentry, dressing up and more!
Use of funds
Our funds will go towards the up keep of our centre. It has been loved and standing since the 1960's and not a lot has changed!
Our centre needs to be painted inside and our outside play area needs care and attention.
The old soft fall matting is just that, old and the tree roots have pushed up, making big mounds that the Tamariki trip over a lot. The area does not get a lot of sun and is damp and cold so we are wanting to pull up the matting and put new modernmatting on a flat area.
