Bone Marrow Cancer Trust / Ranui House

Support Rānui - a home away from home where families stay close during life-saving treatment in Christchurch.

Canterbury

For more than 33 years, the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust has owned and managed Rānui House - a home away from home for patients and their whānau who must travel to Christchurch for what is often life-saving medical treatment.

In November 2024, we proudly opened Rānui Apartments, adding 54 new apartments alongside our original 26 at Rānui House. This means we can welcome even more families from across New Zealand, ensuring no one is turned away in their time of need.

From Whangārei in the north to Stewart Island in the south, seriously ill New Zealanders travel hundreds of kilometres to Christchurch for treatments such as chemotherapy, bone marrow transplants, heart surgery, high-risk pregnancies, neonatal care, kidney transplants, dialysis and other serious illnesses. These specialist services are not available in many regional or rural communities. Families often leave behind their loved ones, jobs, farms, and support networks for weeks or months while undergoing treatment at Christchurch Hospital.

That’s where Rānui comes in. Just steps from the hospital and opposite beautiful Hagley Park, Rānui offers more than accommodation - it offers comfort, connection and community. Each family has their own apartment with beds, a kitchen, laundry and living space just like home, plus onsite parking and shared communal areas. Our caring team looks after the practical things so whānau can focus on what matters most: treatment and recovery.

At Rānui, everyone is welcome. Together, we know families heal faster.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
