This is something that affects most young boys and girls in Cambodia in some way. It is a huge problem, some money from this will go towards CCPCR Cambodia. Please give generously to this cause at Christmas as this is a needy cause and is close to my heart. Please help if you can.

      2 February 2012

Well I have been home for 10 months and I have already been back to Cambodia and will return again for 1 month in May 2012. CCPCR has done remarkabley well since I have left Cambodia. The girls are making clothes for Cambodian women to?wear to weddings and also?have a market to sell school uniforms.??I am constantly in contact with the Management and the staff and girls. Cambodia has had huge flooding this last year and CCPCR was hit with a lot of flooding this affects the animals which they are raising for funds for the shelter and the health of the girls and staff. At present we rent our shelter property which is beside the Vai Ho river. My dream is to purchase land in Svay Rieng away from the river so the shelter with the girls help can become more self-sufficent, and not have to ask International donors for money on a yearly basis eventually. At present we $300 USD a month for the rental of the property and any maintanence is paid for by the shelter the landlord just collects the rent this is very normal in Cambodia. The land will cost between $15,000 to $20,000 NZD for 1 hectare or 1 1/2 acres. I will put up some pictures of the flooding and some of the land I wish to purchase for the shelter. Please help me achieve this dream if possible. Any questions please do not hesitiate to ask. Please dont forget all donations are in New Zealand dollars. Thank You.

Hi Everybody, Well CCPCR has been through some difficult times the last couple of months. We finally recieved the donation money in Cambodia in either Feb or March. It took such a long time because of the difficulty of using Paypal and the legalities around the withdrawl of the money. CCPCR now has a new Exceutive Director now his name is Thy. Financially we are struggling and the shelter is running on a budget of around $50,000 USD. This means we have had to tighten our belts, but the care of the girls has not faultered. At the moment at the shelter we have 30 girls. I have used the donation money for food for the girls, money also has been spent on the girls attending school. Some of the money was used to build a new oven bench built in the kitchen. The old one was unusable and unsafe for the girls to cook in the kitchen. We are teaching the girls at the moment how to thoughly clean the kitchen with warm water and cleaning products. This is quite foreign to them it is not that they are lazy, they just don't know these things. English and Khmer classes are being taught at the shelter now for staff and girls. I am teaching the English classes with the help of another University Volunteer from New Zealand. We have had to spilit the girls into two groups as some of the girls have never spoken english at all. Some of the girls are getting very good with their english and we can have quite a conversation. They are also receiving a Math class daily. Another private donation we got from New Zealand has provided the girls at the shelter with new bikes, 4 second-hand computers, and 4 sewing machines. At the moment we have a idea to try and buy a small truck with a glass capsule on the deck, from their the girls could be driven to certain parts of Svay Rieng and sell coffee hot/cold, trinkets, scarves etc. This venture would teach the girls budgeting, driving skills, self-suffiencey, leadership,?marketing,?and so much more it has so much potential. This venture I will oversee but the girls will be taught to be in control of this themselves. Sport is a big part of the girls life at CCPCR lately they have been using stilts, quoits, skipping, badmiton, volleyball, soccer this is so good for their health and mentally it helps them forget their problems, if only for a short time. If you have any suggestions or comments do not hesitate to email me. Thanks again Nicky Brown

Hi everyone, Well it has been a busy couple of weeks at CCPCR a large number of girls have been reintergrated back to their families and our numbers are around 30 at the moment. This is always increasing because of the need for the shelter, two weeks ago we accepted two girls her had been rescued from human trafficking. There is a huge problem worldwide but huge in Cambodia as well. Children are sold by some parent's because they are poor, some are tricked into giving there children away and being told their children will have a better life elsewhere but they will get newsletters. Some girls are told they are going to good jobs only to find they are being sold into prostitution in another country. Most of the girls in the shelter have horrible stories like this. Any of this trauma is through no fault of their own. At the moment this website has earned $515 New Zealand dollars for CCPCR Svay Rieng that is through some generous donations. All this money will be accountable to all donors as I will update the activies at the shelter regualry through a newsletter. If you have any questions do not hesitiate to ask. Cheers Nicky
