Aviva (formerly Christchurch Women's Refuge) supports New Zealanders become their best, free from family violence.
Aviva is a Canterbury-based, specialist family violence agency. Aviva was established in 1973 as Christchurch Women’s Refuge - New Zealand’s first refuge.
Over the years we have significantly evolved the support we offer. We now work with men as well as women and children at any point of their journey, from crisis intervention through family violence education to the support of wider personal wellbeing.
We provide an extensive and unique range of specialist services which include our traditional services (such as education programmes, advocacy, a free support line and access to temporary accommodation) as well as new services such as:
* ReachOut early intervention support for men;
* Shine safe@home home security upgrades;
* Specialist Peer Support;
* Sexual Assault Support Services; and
* No Interest Loans.
Our aim is to better support people to overcome family and sexual violence and live safe and fulfilled lives – together or apart.
We offer a wide range of specialist family and sexual violence services that support people to create and maintain violence-free lives. We support children, women and men at any point of their journey. Most importantly, we offer that support with passion, compassion and the belief that what has gone before you does not have to limit where you are going.
