The NZ Youth Choir and Voices NZ Chamber Choir are our national choirs selected by audition. The NZ Youth Choir has 50 members aged 18-25.
In 1999 the NZ Youth Choir won the supreme ‘Choir of the World’ title at the International Music Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales. Voices NZ Chamber Choir is a world class choir and has been invited to perform a many international choral events the last being in Argentina at the 9th World Symposium in 2011.
In June the NZ Youth Choir heads to Europe for its 2016 European Landmark Tour. This includes performances in Singapore, the International Festival of Academic Choirs in the Czech Republic, Le Quesnoy in Northern France, Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, Oxford University Church, St Georges Chapel Windsor, St John’s Smith Square in Westminster, Ely Cathedral and St John’s College Chapel, Cambridge. Choirs Aotearoa NZ Trust manages two national choirs – the NZ Youth Choir of 18 – 25 year old singers and the senior choir Voices NZ Chamber Choir. NZ Youth was founded in 1979 and has undertaken 10 international tours and performed all around New Zealand. Voices NZ is a world class choir and has been invited to perform a many national and international choral events. From time to time tour funds are opened to support overseas tours; information about current tours can be found on the Choirs Aotearoa website www.choirsnz.co.nz
