The RC share new ways of working, creative solutions and better practice through research. Through The RC, all community groups can have free access to research resources and support – all that is needed is access to the web. The ability to access relevant research supports groups to improve their programmes and services to their clients.
The Clearing House (CH) is the first major project of The RC. The CH is an online database of research that holds more than 140 items searchable in both English and Te Reo Maori. The CH currently has 506 registered users and over the last 12 months it has had just over 20,000 hits from various sources.

The Tangata Whenua, Community and Voluntary Sector Research Centre is offering a new scholarship opportunity for postgraduate students or other new researchers writing a dissertation, thesis or relevant research report that adds to our understanding of the tangata whenua, community and voluntary sector in Aotearoa. Scholarship recipients will have the chance to present their work in progress, get important feedback on their research and meet other researchers with shared interest and knowledge in this field. Research Seminar: The Tangata Whenua, Community and Voluntary Sector Research Centrefs New and Emerging Researcher Seminar will be a one-day gathering held in conjunction with the centrefs AGM. It will be designed to provide feedback, encouragement, networking and dissemination opportunities to students researching issues which increase knowledge of the Tangata Whenua, Community and Voluntary Sector in Aotearoa. The seminar will engage with the work of up to seven chosen scholarship recipients, who will make brief presentations on their research and receive feedback from other researchers and their fellow students. Two guest speakers (Len Cook, ex Government Statistician and a Kaupapa Maori researcher still to be confirmed) will provide further input to the day and there will be opportunities for networking, support and dissemination of research work. Award:The scholarship award will provide each recipient with up to $400 to offset the cost of travel and accommodation to attend the seminar and the Research Centre AGM. Eligibility: In order to be considered for the scholarship, students must have an approved research proposal already underway. Scholarship recipients may come from any institution and any academic discipline. The research must be focused on a topic related to the Tangata Whenua, Community and Voluntary Sector in Aotearoa. Focus areas might include (but are not limited to) organisations in this sector and their management or governance (e.g., iwi, hapu, marae, health, social services, arts , environmental organisations, charities and other community organisations); or concepts such as advocacy, mahi aroha, volunteerism, social capital, community participation, membership, funding, tax and regulatory environment; or issues such as contracting with the state, impact of the recession, public policy and intersectoral relations. Application: Scholarship applicants should use the form below this notice and submit: a one to two page description in a Word document of their research project and issues encountered, with an explanation of why participation in this seminar would be particularly helpful to their development as a researcher a letter of recommendation in a Word or PDF document from their research supervisor or other appropriate person, which confirms that a research proposal has been approved an estimate of their travel/accommodation costs to attend. These materials must be received at the Tangata Whenua, Community and Voluntary Sector Research Centre by 5 pm, Monday October 5th, 2009. Recipients of the scholarship award will be notified by October 12th, 2009 and advised of guidelines for their presentation of their research and the dialogue session.
