Our task is to increase robotics in schools by introducing the VEX Robotics platform to schools. Our aim is to raise the number of students participating in VEX Robotics competitions. These competitions are regional, and National competitions held around New Zealand every year.
Currently, Hawke's Bay schools wishing to participate have to travel to Palmerston North and we are working hard to establish enough teams to run the competitions here in Hawke's Bay from Term 3 2017. Lindisfarne College have generously agreed to staff and run the Hawke's Bay competitions.
Robotics and Computer Science in Schools Educational Trust is raising funds to put a robot kit into every school in Hawke's Bay wishing to participate. We will give help and support to schools and teachers to allow them to set up and run their robotics clubs.
Working with Hastings Library we will be running a STEAM Club at their premises on a Thursday from Week 5 next term. There we will provide free expert help to children taking part. There is no cost for children to be involved in this club.
Even the smallest donation from people will help us put Hawke's Bay on the VEX Robotics Map. Your help will be very gratefully received.
We are also seeking people with interest in this area to volunteer their time to mentor schools and teams.
How competitive robotics supports learning?
Provides a specific design challenge and set of rules which mimic real world engineering projects
Encourages students to work with students from other schools
Provides motivation for students to write better code to improve their performance in competition
Helps students develop teamwork by working in multi-functional group
The Purpose of Robotics and Computer Science in Schools Educational Trust is to promote computer science and robotics opportunities for schools and children in Hawke's Bay. Our first task is to increase robotics in schools by introducing the VEX Robotics platform to raise the number of students participating in VEX Robotics competitions. These are regional, and National competitions held every year. Currently, Hawke's Bay schools wishing to participate have to travel to Palmerston North.
Robotics and Computer Science in Schools Educational Trust aim to provide training and robot kits to schools/teachers to allow them to set up and run robotics clubs enabling more schools to compete in the Hawke's Bay Regional Competitions.
The money is needed to supply robot kits to schools and professional development of teachers.
