Cultural Conversations is a vibrant community space based in Nelson, New Zealand, where creativity and culture come together to empower migrant and former refugee communities. Through music, dance, storytelling, visual arts, and performance, we provide a safe, welcoming platform for people outside the mainstream.
The primary outcome of these projects and events are to enhance knowledge, awareness, and appreciation for the cultural diversity that makes up the Nelson region and beyond.
We’re more than just a space—we’re a family, a platform, and a movement for cultural exchange and celebration.

Cultural Conversations is an arts-based cultural hub in the Whakatū Nelson CBD, where people from different ethnicities meet, lead, create, learn, upskill and feel a sense of belonging and social cohesion in a safe, welcoming environment.

"Bringing back Tertulia" - A Cultural Conversations fundraiser 18 May 2026
Whether through spoken word, poetry, music, storytelling, or acting, Cultural Conversations is a space where creativity and culture come to life.
This event is open to artists, storytellers, musicians, and anyone who appreciates cultural expression. Whether you want to perform, share your work, or simply listen, your presence adds to the experience and your ticket purchase helps to keep the community glowing.
Please note the creative offerings will start as soon as you walk into the foyer between 4.30 - 5 p.m.
Food and craft stalls will be in the foyer before and after the event.
Performances on Theatre stage start at 5 p.m. and finish around 6.30 p.m.
Thanks to NBS and The Suter Art Gallery for sponsoring this event so we can fundraise. Please note this is our main fundraiser for the year to ensure Cultural Conversations can continue it's kaupapa.
