The Dunedin Curtain Bank provides free thermally lined curtains to those in need.
Fuel poverty is a big thing these days and the Dunedin Curtain Bank fights to overcome this by using recycled curtains. Curtains provide a thermal barrier to windows to allow heat to be maintained and power bills lowered allowing for money to be spent on other essential items, i.e. food.
In our first year Dunedin Curtain Bank has received in excess of 1000 donated curtains and we have put 650 pairs of curtains into homes, helping over 400 people keep warm. Many of these curtains have been taken up, lined or repaired, so that they correctly fit the window/homes and help ensure the best possible insulation.
