Our projects centre around the role of education in eradicating poverty. We're grassroots, but our impact is unparalleled in this community.
Nationwide
We’ve been supporting poverty-stricken families in Andong, a displaced community about an hour from Phnom Penh, since 2009. With little-to-no access to clean water, sanitation, education or medical care, there are numerous social and economic reasons why children in Andong don't go to or stay in school.
Our goal is to improve the lives of the next generation in Andong by providing opportunities for education. We achieve this by focusing on practical projects that provide long-term, sustainable solutions in education, family support and income generation.
Our Projects:
- High quality early literacy to supplement local school programs and provide access to books from an early age;
- Government lobbying and partnership for the development of new classrooms at local schools;
- Emergency residential care for children at risk and support for families in crisis;
- Income generation for families of children in school to ensure children continue long term studies (our sewing centre is the first social enterprise established in Andong); and
- Community education and counselling services.
Dara Children's Trust is a registered NZ charity, founded after a fateful trip to Cambodia in 2009. We're a grassroots organisation that has been supporting sustainable education and employment opportunities in Andong ever since.
