Helping people to help themselves, educating people as to their rights and obligations under the law, assisting or representing clients through civil dispute or criminal processes, and being a source of legal information.

The CLO first opened its doors on June 9th, 1980, as an initiative of Otago University Law Students. Currently 170 student and community volunteers work with the staff in providing services such as advice and education.

Community Law Otago (formerly Dunedin Community Law Centre) works with people in Otago who cannot access traditional legal services. Through face-to-face clinics we help people with legal advice about processes and dispute resolution and assist where we can, providing information advice representation and support.
