Deaf Wellbeing Society is a non profit community organisation providing support to Deaf New Zealanders through education and social contact.
Auckland
For the last 10 years we have been operating monthly cooking classes for the Deaf. Our classes are taught in NZSL. In 2017 we started our Drop In Arts and Crafts Activity days. These are fortnightly and also in NZSL.
The Deaf Wellbeing Cooking Club started because of the need to reduce the isolation that many Deaf experience and to improve their quality of life through education, companionship and achievement. We teach economical healthy recipes in a non-judgmental environment.
Our Deaf Wellbeing Cooking Club offers the opportunity to learn new recipes, new techniques, specialised meals for people with allergies or intolerances and information about nutrition. The group learn how to interpret recipes that may have seemed too difficult in written English language which are made easier by using NZSL.
Our Arts and Crafts days are fun and an excellent way to be creative in a NZSL supportive environment.
The social settings reduce isolation.
There are many on going costs to the classes and your donation towards its running would be very much appreciated.
