The Environmental Defence Society is an organisation of environmental thought leaders. It works for pragmatic change in society and presents a reasoned voice for New Zealand's natural world.
EDS is an advocate, researcher and commentator on critical environment issues facing New Zealand. It is a modern, boutique conservation organisation, open to new ideas in the ever-changing world we live in.
It is an environmental think-tank, a litigator in defence of the environment and stimulates positive ideas through its conferences and seminars. EDS influences decision makers at all levels and in a wide range of sectors. EDS is a trusted, not-for-profit NGO that invests its funding effectively into policy, litigation, education and ultimately the well-being of Aotearoa.

The Environmental Defence Society (EDS) is a professionally run, independent, not-for-profit environmental group that was established in 1971 and is committed to improving environmental outcomes for all New Zealanders.
EDS brings together the disciplines of science, planning, landscape and the law.
It operates as a think-tank, providing thought leadership on key environmental issues as well as representing the environment before councils and the courts.
EDS is located at the collaborative and business aware end of the environmental movement, seeking constructive engagement with all sectors, to achieve good environmental and economic outcomes for all New Zealanders.
It also plays an education role, helping business, councils, community groups and iwi to better understand best practice resource management. EDS runs national and regional conferences and seminars on topical issues.
EDS has been representing the environment for over 40 years and it continues to do so. It has influence.
