EVolocity

EVolocity is an incubator for innovation, engineering excellence, and we are helping create future-focused career pathways for young New Zealanders. EVolocity is a national charity that has been empowering young New Zealanders since 2014. Operating across eight regions, the programme delivers hands-on STEM experiences that prepares students for tertiary study, apprenticeships, and careers in technology and trades—while accelerating New Zealand’s transition to clean transportation. Now in its 11th year, EVolocity has grown into the country’s premier youth electric vehicle competition, reaching over nine hundred students across 220 school teams in 2024. Students receive electric motor kits, safety & design guidelines, and creative freedom to engineer their own sustainable transport solutions.

What Makes EVolocity Special -Through the vehicle build journey (karts & bikes), students gain practical skills in design and CAD, mechanical and electrical engineering, electronics and programming, welding, teamwork, and project management. In 2024, participants included: • 15% Māori and Pasifika students • 14% Asian/Indian students • 21% young women. EVolocity is actively working to grow these numbers through its Young Women in STEM initiative.

With 41% of participants in Years 12–13, EVolocity is actively energising New Zealand’s future

workforce with rangatahi equipped to lead in technical, problem-solving, and collaborative

environments. Our alumni are already making their mark across aerospace, healthcare, technology,

and trades—with many forging their own paths as entrepreneurs and innovators in the clean tech

space.
