Evolve is a ‘one stop shop’ providing free, confidential health and social support to 10-24 year olds.
Wellington
Evolve is committed to reducing barriers that often prevent young people from asking for help when they need it. Common barriers include cost, embarrassment, not wanting to make a fuss, concern about confidentiality, not knowing where to go, and feeling judged or patronised. Because we work so hard to reduce barriers, we see many of Wellington’s most vulnerable young people - the ones that others may have given up on, or who have often given up on themselves.
Our approach centres on building strength and resilience with young people that helps them to realise their potential. It’s an integrated service that brings youth workers together with nurses, doctors, counsellors and social workers to wrap support around young people. The great thing about this age group, is we have real opportunities to effect change in their lives. We are seeing some great results!
But we are also seeing a growing number of young people who are really struggling. They are more likely to commit or be victims of crime, have serious alcohol, drug and mental health issues, and be homeless or at risk of homelessness because of very low/no income and social isolation. And the reality is that Evolve too, is now struggling to keep up.
For many years we have ‘flown under the radar’ of the general public. We don’t actively advertise, as young people find us easily via word of mouth. We don’t print glossy reports, and haven’t sought media attention or other publicity. We don’t have a high profile - except where it counts - with young people.
Until now that has been okay, but we can no longer keep up with all the young people pouring through our doors.
We often tell young people "Don't be afraid to ask for help", and we've decided to take our own advice. We need your support.
Our Vision: Young people thrive as their authentic selves
Our Purpose: Supporting rangatahi in Te-Whanganui-a-Tara to thrive, connecting them to timely, accessible and engaging heath, wellbeing and support services.
