Urgent repairs and interim redesign of the Hare Krishna Temple Ashram (Accommodation/Living Quarters, Kitchen and Bathrooms)
Wellington
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Wellington Incorporated, commonly known as the Hare Krishna Movement, is urgently needing emergency funding to repair damages caused by flooding from storm water that happened to the Temple Ashram (Accommodation/Living Quarters, Kitchen and Bathrooms) located at 105 Newlands Road, Newlands, Wellington on Saturday 17 July 2021.
The Temple Ashram accommodates our priest and staff of the Higher Taste Hare Krishna restaurant located in the Old Bank Arcade.
The damage is extensive to the entire bottom floor that got flooded at knee level, and now needs redesigning to minimise future events.
Ground floor consisted of 3 bedrooms accommodating the restaurant staff, bathrooms, laundry and storage area.
Use of the toilets is also essential for Temple visitors.
Funds collected will go towards the repairs and also interim redesign of the ground floor. The building is insured and therefore the insurance company will repair the damage to its original condition. However, due to three floods over a 10 year period we must redesign to minimise the damage. This means moving the bedrooms to level one, relocating the current kitchen to the ground level, building a disabled toilet and two toilets and two showers all to commercial standard using waterproof material and tiles. The redesign is estimated to cost $60,000 to $100,000 apart from the insurance company funded repairs.
Your support will be greatly appreciated.
