As the population of Lake Hawea and Hawea Flat continues to grow, the need to establish a local cat rescue was identified. A group of passionate feline welfare advocates formed and began caring for cats in the community in a variety of ways. HMS has recently celebrated two years of operation.

We are a registered cat charity (CC60184), based in the Hawea area, Central Otago. We are volunteers who care for cats and kittens in the community. Our work includes fostering, ensuring necessary veterinary treatment is carried out, including desexing and microchipping prior to adoption. We also undertake community education and assistance with lost and found pets, as well as dealing with any cat related questions.
