The future of Homebuilders Family Services, a 30 year institution in our community, is in jeopardy and seeks the communities help.
Warkworth, Auckland
Homebuilders Family Services ( a charitable organisation) was established over 30 years ago by members of the community who recognised the need for a home based and community support service for families under stress or in crisis, to enable them to remain intact, empowering them to function independently or with a small amount of appropriate support.
Literally thousands of families in the north Rodney region have benefitted from engaging with the team, from children as young as five through to parents and caregivers. This has been delivered in the form of one-to-one counselling, therapeutic intervention, advocacy, and informative courses. Most crucially, all these services have been available for free.
Due to recent significant funding cuts in the social services sector Homebuilders existence has been placed in serious jeopardy. A 60% reduction in funding means the team are taking drastic and necessary action to try and keep the doors open and the free service available.
Within weeks the team of seven professionals will soon become a team of three. This alone does not guarantee the future viability of Homebuilders which is why as well as looking for new revenue streams we are coming to you the community, kindly, to ask for your support.
The necessity to keep Homebuilders functioning becomes more apparent when we recognise that there is no other service in the region that offers the same or similar service free of charge.
Homebuilders Family Services is a free home based and community support services for families under stress or in crisis, to enable them to remain intact, empowering them to function independently or with a small amount of appropriate support.
