House of Science Tauranga is a not for profit organisation who provides science resource kits to 59 Western Bay of Plenty school.
Bay of Plenty
The House of Science Charitable Trust (HoS) was established in 2013 to raise scientific literacy in the Western Bay of Plenty. We do that by resourcing and connecting the local science community through science resources for primary schools, after school and holiday programmes, teacher professional development, symposia and other community events.
How do we do this?
The HoS Tauranga has 47 different resources Kits, each Kit can cost between $2,000 and $5,000 they have at least 6 experiments in each Kit. The kit gets distributed to local schools in a library format. HoS Tauranga staff and volunteers deliver, collect and maintain the boxes. Every 2 months a new Kit is released. Each kit reaches 1000 children a year.
Teachers love using the resource boxes as everything they need is supplied and it gives them the confidence to deliver excellent science lessons. The Ministry of Education does not fund science in primary schools.
59 Western Bay of Plenty Schools are members of the House of Science Tauranga. When a School becomes a member of House of Science Tauranga, They can then book the Kits which will be delivered to the school on Monday mornings, and picked up on a Friday. The Kits then have to be cleaned and restocked ready to go out to the next school on Monday.
House of Science Tauranga has to source funds so we can provide this service.
We also run afterschool programs, holiday programs, programs for homeschooled children, a Robotics club and robotic holiday programs.
