I'm Adopted

We help adoptees nationwide and globally connect. Recognising the significance of this mutual support and understanding it's importance.

Nationwide

Here at I’m Adopted, we provide an open space for adoptees. Our mission with our organisation is to have this community that helps those who need to connect. Established in 2015, by Alex Gilbert after his own experience of connecting with his birth family.

Through our community, we have successfully cultivated a thriving network for adoptees here in New Zealand and around the world.

We offer a safe environment for adoptees through our private group, we facilitate meet-ups (in person or online) and offer advice to adoptees for those who may be needing some extra guidance. In addition, we offer a list of online resources, both written and visual, including our videos where adoptees share their personal stories through our An Adoption Story web series.

We have shared thousands of heartfelt narratives within our community, offering valuable insights to those navigating similar experiences. This collective sharing of stories has helped many who may be going through a similar experience, no matter at what point through their journey they may be at. We are here for everyone.

Note: If you're outside of New Zealand, you still can donate. Compatible only if you have Visa or Mastercard. Thank you!

Our Latest Meet-up!  31 October 2025

What an awesome turnout we had for our recent I’m Adopted meet-up in Tauranga, New Zealand! A huge thank you to everyone who came along to connect, talk about their stories and simply meet others in the community.

Thank you to my co-hosts, Ian Manson and Katerina Clark for helping make this event happen, and to the amazing team at Good Neighbour for providing the venue. Ian, thank you too to your wife Leigh for her incredible help on the day.

It was incredible to see how much our community continues to grow and to hear so many stories shared in person. Thank you again to everyone who joined us.

We can’t wait for the next one, and for those of you around the globe, we hope to visit your part of the world soon.
