    What an awesome turnout we had for our recent I’m Adopted meet-up in Tauranga, New Zealand! A huge thank you to everyone who came along to connect, talk about their stories and simply meet others in the community.

    Thank you to my co-hosts, Ian Manson and Katerina Clark for helping make this event happen, and to the amazing team at Good Neighbour for providing the venue. Ian, thank you too to your wife Leigh for her incredible help on the day.

    It was incredible to see how much our community continues to grow and to hear so many stories shared in person. Thank you again to everyone who joined us.

    We can’t wait for the next one, and for those of you around the globe, we hope to visit your part of the world soon.

    Thank you to everyone who came to our New Zealand 'I’m Adopted' meet-up in Hamilton! It was so great to connect with each and every one of you. A massive thank you to those who travelled from near and afar to join us — it truly means a lot. Big thanks as well to the team at the Hamilton Gardens for their hospitality and for helping make this event possible.

    And of course, thank you to Alex Gilbert and Valentina A Burgess for helping organise everything behind the scenes!

    We’re already looking forward to the next one — we can’t wait to connect again soon.

  • Ian's Story - A Preview

    Ian’s story will be shared with the world on the 28th of September as part of my An Adoption Story series. I follow Ian through a timeline of his life. Ian only found out he was adopted at the age of 48 during an emotional moment after his wife Leigh managed to obtain information for him. Since then, he has been piecing together his family history, his bloodline, and his Māori whakapapa (Māori genealogy). With the help of his daughter Yolande, he connects the dots to his links within his whakapapa of Te Ngākauiti.

    I can’t wait to share this story as part of my series! Thank you to those who have been helping me behind the scenes to put this together, and to Ian and his family for sharing such a personal story with me. Thank you!

    If you haven't already watched it! You can now watch the first episode for our 2024 series of An Adoption Story on YouTube! Ekaterina was adopted from Syktyvkar, Russia, at the age of three. She shares her journey from those early moments of adoption in New Zealand to discovering more about her bloodline and biological links.

    We are now in the progress of filming the new stories for our series 'An Adoption Story' for 2024. You will be able to view these stories in full throughout the year as we release the stories one by one on YouTube. Please remember that all the stories will be shared on Alex Gilbert's YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/alexgilbert.

    The series is done entirely himself. The series isn't supported by funding or sponsorship. Proceeds from our Givealittle and the Patreon for the series will be helping us continue to create this series for the global adoption community.
