Help keep Karamea history alive by supporting Karamea Centennial Museum.
West Coast
We are seeking donations for the ongoing development of the Karamea Centennial Museum. Our intention is to upgrade the entrance with new doors to create a welcoming space, and revitalise our displays. We are preparing to celebrate Karamea's 150th Birthday in 2024, and would like the Museum to reflect our continuing commitment to preserving the history of Karamea for future generations.
Our small Museum is volunteer-led and relies on the generous support of visitors and donors to keep us afloat.
As you come into the museum you are met with a showcase of our local history, which includes social history, photographs, geology, Dairy and Sawmilling industries. We have extensive archival records used by many to retrace their family history.
The Karamea Historical Society manages the Karamea Centennial Museum which showcases a range of local artifacts including items brought by the first settlers who came from the U.K and settled the Karamea District in November 1874. We have extensive and detailed local historical records and photos.
