Kerikeri Steam Trust

Steamboat heading for great things, bringing tourism to the Bay!

Northland

This Century-old wooden steamboat able to carry more than 100 people is being restored by John Clode and a team of budding volunteers in order to get it back to its former glory.

The Kerikeri Steam Trust is restoring the 20 metre SS Minerva after her Auckland owner gifted the boat to the trust on condition they restore her to her original state.

Minerva's size and wooden construction make her unique in New Zealand which has few large working steamboats.

The Minerva has towed kauri logs and been used as a ferry, fishing boat, floating brothel and America's Cup spectator boat, becoming a major tourist attraction in the bay

More about us

This 100+ year old Steam boat is a community project and will be working in conjunction with The Bay of Islands Steam Train service and will be moored in Opua. We are making good progress with our volunteers but funds can run low. We need the help of the community, financially or manually. If you can help get this up and running for Kerikeri and The Bay of Islands then please donate your time or money.

We meet every Friday at 9am on Cobham Road.
