Kete Food Share

Help Kete Food Share save the leftover food of local businesses and pass it on to families in the community who need it.

Wellington

Kete is based in the Epuni, Lower Hutt. We arrange the collection of food from local cafes and bakeries, and welcome local families and individuals to join us at the ReMakery to engage with others, enjoy a hot drink and some food, and to find out about opportunities within the community for them to give back, be it by volunteering, donating homegrown produce, knitting, or helping to prepare a shared meal.

More about us

Kete Food Share is an initiative within the Common Unity Project, based at the ReMakery in Epuni, Lower Hutt.

Our work involves collecting food from cafes and bakeries at the end of the day which is edible, but no longer saleable. We then distribute it from our store to local individuals and families who may be struggling to put food on the table.

We charge nothing, but in exchange encourage our recipients to give back to their community in other ways, be it volunteering some time, sharing a skill, or donating homegrown produce.

Use of funds

We rely on volunteers and donations to make Kete Food Share happen.

Donations help us cover running costs such as rent/power, supplies for cleaning and packaging, tea and milk, and transport/petrol. As we grow, we will also look at items such as a refrigerator and delivery bike which would aid us in operating 5 days a week.
